What is needed is clarity.

3 February 2026 posted by Arno Schilders advies clarity leadership

Most organizations don't get stuck due to a lack of improvement initiatives. They get stuck due to a lack of clarity.

We're introducing new systems, devising new structures, and launching new projects. But underlying this, one question remains unanswered:

Who is really responsible for what?

As long as this isn't clear, you'll get a predictable pattern:

  • Consulting instead of deciding
  • Coordinating instead of acting
  • Escalating instead of resolving

We call it complexity. But often it's just a lack of clarity. My belief: you can't get a handle on an organization without first getting a handle on responsibilities. People don't need to work harder. Processes need to be smarter.

What is needed, is clarity.

Once responsibilities are clearly defined, collaboration accelerates, irritations disappear, and improvements continue to flow. Not temporarily. Structurally. It's not a tool. It's not a report. It requires making choices about who's responsible for what. And yes... that's uncomfortable. But without those choices, optimization is mainly... just keeping busy.
